چکیده

Using a connectivity matrix, we establish a continuum modeling approach with partial differential equations of conservation laws for simulating materials flow in supply chain networks. A number of existing and new constitutive relationships for modeling velocity are summarized or proposed. To effectively treat strong advection components within the modeling system, we apply discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods for solving production flow in a supply chain network. In addition, a number of DG properties are analyzed for treating network flow. In particular, a nearly optimal error estimate is obtained using a new estimating technique that utilizes two physical meaningful assumptions on the connectivity matrix. Numerical examples are provided to simulate a single node, a serial supply chain and an entire network as well as to investigate the influence of influx variation and node shut-down to the profiles of work in progress (WIP) and outflux. It is shown that the proposed modeling approach is applicable to a large number of scenarios including re-entrant lines and the proposed DG algorithm is robust and accurate for predicting WIP and outflux behaviors. 2007 Elsevier B.V. Optimal design of supply chain network under uncertainty environment using hybrid analytical and simulation modeling approach

Models that aim to optimize the design of supply chain networks have gained more interest in the supply chain literature. Mixed-integer linear programming and discrete-event simulation are widely used for such an optimization problem. We present a hybrid approach to support decisions for supply chain network design using a combination of analytical and discrete-event simulation models. The prop...

A Hybridized Crouziex-Raviart Nonconforming Finite Element and Discontinuous Galerkin Method for a Two-Phase Flow in the Porous Media

In this study, we present a numerical solution for the two-phase incompressible flow in the porous media under isothermal condition using a hybrid of the linear lower-order nonconforming finite element and the interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method. This hybridization is developed for the first time in the two-phase modeling and considered as the main novelty of this research. The p...

Finite Element Methods for Threads and Plates with Real-Time Applications

Thin and slender structures are widely occurring both in nature and in human creations. Clever geometries of thin structures can produce strong constructions while using a minimal amount of material. Computer modeling and analysis of thin and slender structures has its own set of problems stemming from assumptions made when deriving the equations modeling their behavior from the theory of conti...

Modeling and Analysis of Material Flows in Re-Entrant Supply Chain Networks Using Modified Partial Differential Equations

The basic partial differential equation PDE models for supply chain networks with re-entrant nodes and their macroscopic are proposed. However, through numerical examples, the basic continuummodels do not performwell for multiple re-entrant systems. Then, a new state equation considering the re-entrant degree of the products is introduced to improve the effectiveness of the basic continuum mode...

Notes on RKDG Methods for Shallow-Water Equations in Canal Networks

PDE models for network flows are used in a number of different applications, including modeling of water channel networks. While the theory and first-order numerics are well developed, high-order schemes are not well developed. We propose a Runge-Kutta discontinuous Galerkin method as an efficient, effective and compact numerical approach for numerical simulations of 1-D models for water flow i...
